Organization:

The basic unit of Quaker organization is the local community which meets regularly for worship. These Friends (and visitors) are known as a "Monthly Meeting" because they gather monthly as Meeting for Business. A regional association of Monthly Meet ings meets less often as Quarterly Meeting (in our case Haddonfield, Medford, Marlton, Camden, Moorestown, and Westfield). The largest regional grouping is the Yearly Meeting, ours is Philadelphia Yearly Meeting (PYM), which embraces about 100 Monthly Meetings in eastern Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland's Eastern Shore, and central/southern New Jersey. Yearly Meetings in the USA and Canada which practice silent worship are associated in Friends General Conference (FGC). Yearly Meetings around the world communicate through Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC).

Concern for our social, political, and physical environment is part of Quaker conviction that religious readings are manifest in actions: it is how we live, not outward show or words, which reflects our values. You may want to learn more about the work and services of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL), Quaker United Nations Office (QUNO).
